V-E Day
REMEMBERING VICTORY – Former Sen. Bob Dole speaks during a ceremony today commemorating the 60th anniversary of allied victory in Europe, May 8, 1945. The day is known as "V-E Day." The ceremony was held near the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C. Dole served in Europe with the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division during World War II, and he was severely wounded during combat in Italy. Seated to Dole's left is Francis Harvey, secretary of the Army, while Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard Franklin Welch, along with a representative of the National Parks Service, are seated to his right.
